Talking about the time in Portuguese is an everyday activity. In Portuguese, as well as in all other languages, there are often more than one way to say a specific time. During level A1, I suggest that all Portuguese language students opt for the simplest form. And the simplest form is to say the number of hours and the number of minutes.
By choosing this option, besides correctly stating the time, students will also consolidate the cardinal numbers in Portuguese. And as I mentioned before, numbers are very important and require a lot of repetition.
PRO TIP: In Portuguese, before stating the time (and minutes), we use the verb “SER” (to be). We have two options. Most of the time, we use the plural form of the verb “SER,” for example: “são 2h, são 3h, são 4h, são 5h…”. But in three situations, we use the singular form of the verb “SER”: “é 1h, é meia-noite, é meio-dia“.
