This topic is, in our opinion, the first grammatical topic of level A2. It’s important to mention that different schools, different teachers, and different books have slightly different opinions regarding the grammatical contents of different levels of Portuguese learning.
Personal object pronouns (pronomes pessoais oblíquos) are widely used in the everyday life of all Portuguese speakers and are usually easy to learn and memorize.
These pronouns are used after prepositions. This means that after a preposition (such as “de,” “em,” “para,” “por,” …), we don’t use, for example, the pronoun “eu” (I). Example: This is for ME=Isto é para MIM (instead of: “this is for I = isto é para eu“).
PRO TIP: Despite many people (especially Brazilian individuals) saying “para você” or “em você,” these constructions are incorrect in the sense that after a preposition, we cannot use the pronoun “você” and should replace it with “si.” Example: Isto é para si! = This is for you!
