Welcome to level B1 in Portuguese! We know that getting here wasn’t easy, but the truth is you’ve already made it. I have been teaching the Portuguese language for over 10 years, and the truth is that not all Portuguese language students can reach level B1! So, if you are reading this page, congratulations are already in order!
The B1 level in Portuguese is very interesting! In fact, it is the teaching level that gives me the most pleasure, and I feel that students also enjoy learning at this stage. It’s the level where we delve into the subjunctive mode, and where students can, for the first time, engage in conversations comfortably with native Portuguese speakers.
Throughout level B1, Portuguese language students learn the present and future tenses of the subjunctive, two structures of some complexity. While it is true that throughout this free Portuguese course, we will teach a lot about the subjunctive and its connectors, it is also true that consolidating these structures is manifestly impossible without a good and experienced Portuguese teacher!
When students reach level B1, it doesn’t mean that the content from levels A1 and A2 is perfectly known and consolidated. The truth is that it’s always necessary to review and solidify past structures in order to progressively fill in the knowledge gaps. What I mean by this is that B1-level students should continue advancing in this course but should also regularly revisit the content from levels A1 and A2 (especially A2) to review and consolidate the previously learned material.
EXCELLENT Based on 167 reviews Josefin Pellinger2025-08-03Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Highly recommend this language class if you want to learn Portuguese and see immediate improvements & a sense of achievement! I took the A1 intensive course, it really helped me start speaking and improve my reading and listening skills. The classes were well structured, striking the perfect balance between grammar/theory and practical, 'everyday Portuguese' with lots of speaking practice. I especially enjoyed the focus on pronunciation, which made a big difference in my comprehension. Plus, it was fun! Definitely continuing with the A2 course. The small class sizes allowed for both group development and lots of individual attention, and, along with grammar and vocabulary, Frederico provided us with useful insights on the country and culture. I highly recommend this service. Kel Kelly2025-07-17Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I just completed the A1 Portuguese course and there are no words to describe the happiness and gratitude I feel. I am in my 60s and the other students were much younger and had the benefit of speaking multiple languages. Despite that, Frederico was able to conduct the class to ensure all learners benefitted from the content regardless of their starting point. His online content of Quizlets, podcasts, readings, and interrogation rooms helps solidify the recall and retention of the material taught in class. The course is a solid grammar foundation on which you can build your Portuguese language skills. Instead of just seeing and memorizing words, you will walk away with an understanding of the grammar that drives them. I highly and enthusiastically recommend this course to anyone! He has developed an outstanding A1 course which is appropriate and relevant for beginners. Beat your angst, join the course and be inspired! Obrigada, Frederico. Andrew Aldrich2025-05-31Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Frederico is an excellent teacher - the class was paced perfectly, he is respectful of all students and he provides a non-judgmental learning environment. The class size is small which is perfect. The class had a mix of students from monolingual to multilingual and Frederico intergrated all of us into this A1 course seemlessly. I plan on continuing study with him at Lisbon Language Café... We are now able to speak basic sentences in our daily life and to understand quite a bit, both when reading and listening. We will all be hading for the A2 course soon. We cannot recommend LisbonLanguageCafe and Frederico enough, it has been the best fast track to starting a new language that we could have ever imagined.
